Diez años del TLCAN: una prespectiva a futuro

  • ANTONIO GAZOL SÁNCHEZ

Resumen

NAFTA IMPACT HAS BEEN OVERRATED. TEN YEARS AFTER ITS SIGNATURE, WHAT IS IMPORTANT IS TO LOOK AT THE FUTURE AND RECOGNIZE THAT THE TREATY IS AND INTEGRAL PART OF MEXICAN CONTEXT AND HAS LOST ITS POTENTIALS TO FOSTER EXPORTS AND/OR ATTRACT INVESTMENT, MORE SO IN THE FACE OF ITS POOR IMPACT ON MEXICAN ECONOMY PERFORMANCE. IT IS URGENT, SAYS THE AUTHOR, TO COMMENCE DISCUSSIONS ON THE FUTURE OF THE AGREEMENT, STARTING FROM THE ASSUMPTION THAT IT WILL NOT BE REVERTED, BUT NEITHER IT WILL REMAIN AS IT IS NOW.
